How to register

Registration runs through Bike Adventure Series, the platform behind our series. You'll need a BAS account, your card, and a couple of minutes. The full walkthrough — pricing, what's included, and the exact steps — lives on the registration page.

See how registration works

Stop when you want. For as long as you want. Take that photo by the alpine lake. Have a second coffee at the mountain hut. Chat with the rider you just met on the climb.

Innsbruck
Your adventure starts in the capital of Tyrol. A city where mountains meet culture and Olympic history blends with modern design. Wander the Old Town, look up at the Golden Roof, then fuel up with Tyrolean specialties.
Seefeld Plateau
A high alpine plateau between Austria and Germany. At over 1,200 meters the air is crisp, the panoramas endless. This is where riders catch their breath and remember why they started.
Border crossing
The border is invisible, but you'll feel the change. Germany welcomes you with efficiency and charm in equal measure. Cycle paths become even smoother. Villages more colorful. Beer gardens more tempting.
Mittenwald
Colorful houses painted with murals. Traditional Bavarian dress. Local festivals where goats and cows parade through cobblestone streets. The Alps as you imagined them — even better when you arrive by bike.
Füssen
An enchanted town on the German-Austrian border near Neuschwanstein Castle. Explore the medieval old town with its painted facades and romantic atmosphere. The surrounding mountains and lakes make this one of the most photogenic stops on the route.
Allgäu
If one phrase sums up this region, it's "lush green." Rolling alpine meadows stretch to the horizon, dotted with traditional wooden farmhouses and grazing cows. Gentle hills, clear streams, and the Alps always on the horizon.
Munich
A blend of modernity and tradition. Discover the English Garden, the Marienplatz, and the Hofbräuhaus. Cycle paths lead you through parks and along rivers. Stop for a pretzel, a beer, or both. Then pedal back toward the mountains.
Lake Achensee
Tyrol's largest lake. Turquoise water framed by dramatic peaks. The descent to its shores is one of the highlights of the route. Riders often call this their favourite stop of the journey.

Elevation

From Innsbruck you climb into the Tyrolean highlands, cross into Germany through silent forests, loop around Bavarian lakes, and return through valleys where the only sounds are cowbells and your tires on smooth tarmac. 500 km of alpine riding, all on tarmac, mostly on dedicated cycle paths — without impossible gradients.

A day on the road

Coffee, climbs, and no hurry

You wake up in a mountain village. Pastries and espresso on a sunlit terrace. You spin out gently, chatting with the rider you met yesterday. By noon you're cooling your legs at the edge of a lake. Afternoon: one climb, then a long downhill to tonight's guesthouse. Dinner is loud. Everyone sleeps well.

What they remember

When you're not competing and there's no stress about reaching a finish line first, you take things a bit more calmly. And when you meet other participants, you can stop, talk to them, and share experiences.
Carlos Spain
What really surprised me is the amount of cycle paths. You can really ride without worrying about cars, without worrying about dangers. And the cycle paths go through stunning places near villages, lakes, rivers.
Laila Italy
I will remember the feeling of being like I was in The Sound of Music: the scenery, all the cows with bells, all the fantastic climbs, the magical environment, and lots of friendly people.
Julia Sweden
The scenery was wonderful. All the villages and towns look perfect. The route was very well planned and we always had lovely bike lanes. I saw so many bikes, more than I've ever seen anywhere.
James United Kingdom
People here seemed so calm, so happy. You can really see that people live well in Tyrol and Bavaria. Truly wonderful people.
Marco Italy
Everyone greeted each other as if we had known each other for 10 years. We created a community, even though we didn't know each other before.

What you'll find at The Grand Escape

Cycling, the way you first fell for it

We believe cycling should feel like it did when you first discovered the joy of two wheels. Before power meters and social media turned rides into spreadsheets. Before every hill became a competition and every photo became content.

The Grand Escape brings back what matters: the smell of morning air on empty roads, conversations that happen naturally when you share miles with strangers, the satisfaction of reaching a viewpoint not because you beat a time but because you chose to be there.

This is cycling stripped of everything that doesn't serve the essential truth: bikes make life better when we let them.

  1. 01

    No race

Ride at your own pace. No KOMs, no fastest time, no plastic trophies. The people around you aren't your adversaries — they're your companions. Together you'll share good times, real challenges, and joy.

  2. 02

    Human-curated routes

We're cyclists like you, and we don't enjoy straight busy roads. Our routes are hand-scouted and tested all year. Backroads, cycle paths, hidden secrets, always great scenery. No impossible climbs. No AI bullshit.

  3. 03

    Be in good company

Come with friends, your partner, or solo. You'll leave with new friendships. The people who come here don't race each other — it's a relaxed vibe with zero wanna-be-pro stuff.

  4. 04

    Your pace, your time

No fixed times, no checkpoints, no cut-offs. Ride it fast or ride it slow. The route doesn't care. You decide where to sleep, where to eat, when to stop. The definitive unsupported bikepacking experience — your way.

● Pass summit, afternoon light
The quiet between climbs

You'll remember the silences

You'll remember the silences more than the numbers. What stays with you, months later, is the minute at the top of the pass before the descent. The cowbells in the Allgäu. The sound of coffee cups on a hut terrace at 1,800 metres. That's what this event is for.

Finish line — see you in September
FAQ

Before you sign up

Are spots limited? Can I register later?
Yes, spots are limited to preserve the experience. Registration opens to the newsletter first.
How do I register?
Create an account on bikeadventureseries.com and join the Germany newsletter. When registration opens, you'll receive an email with early access.
Do I need a medical certificate?
Yes, it is required for your insurance (not optional). You don't need to upload it during registration; you can get it later. We'll provide a template for non-Italian residents. For Italian residents, you'll need a "Certificato Medico Agonistico specifico per il ciclismo".
Are all the routes on road?
Yes, the entire route is on tarmac. We hand-pick backroads, cycle paths and quiet connections so you focus on the landscape, not on traffic.
What bike should I bring?
Gravel and road/endurance bikes are perfect. E-bikes are welcome! Check out the BAS Community Forum to ask questions to past riders.
Are there time limits or checkpoints?
None. No cutoffs, no mandatory checkpoints, no leaderboard. You ride the 500 km at your own pace, over the days that suit you.
Where do I sleep and eat?
You choose! There are plenty of hotels and B&Bs along the route. We share tips on how to organize in the digital guide, but the daily logistics stay in your hands, so you can divide the daily distance as you wish.
What if I register and can't participate?
You can transfer your spot to another rider until a few weeks before the event. Full cancellation policy is in the rider dashboard after registration.
Start and finish are the same place?
Yes. It's a loop that starts and finishes in Innsbruck. Easier logistics!
What about parking and getting there?
Innsbruck has a central train station reachable from most of Europe. If you drive, long-stay parking options are shared in the event dashboard.
